Demonstration of Pastels with Jan Vermilya Tues Sept. 11 • 1-3:00 pm

Tuesday Sept. 11 • 1-3:00 pm • Refreshments ; Presentation

Jan Vermilya will be demonstrating pastels. She will discuss the supplies and equipment needed and how they are used for creating works.

“I’m a painter who’s been expressing herself artistically since early childhood. Born in a time when art was not considered gainful employment, I pursued a medical career. But art has remained my avocation throughout.

‘Fun’ is a workshop or a painting session either indoors or en plein aire with friends. I began with Sumi-e (oriental brush painting with hand ground inks and rice paper). I transitioned into western watercolors and showed/sold my work in Virginia and North Carolina before moving to Florida.

Now that I’m retired, I’m painting again using acrylics or water soluble oil paints on canvas, as well as watercolors on paper or canvas and pastels on sanded paper. I will paint on anything including furniture, statuary, tiles, and wall murals. My pieces reflect my love of humanity and nature and I hope you are touched in some way by these renderings.” says Jan Vermilya.

Jan is affiliated with these Florida galleries: Brick City Center for the Arts, Ocala, Gateway Gallery and Emporium, New Port Richey, and Uptown Gallery, Brooksville.

The event is open to the public with a suggested donation of $5 for non members.
