Art Center Theatre Presents: Richard Gilewitz Guitar Concert Dec. 6th @ 7:30

The Art Center of Citrus County Theatre is pleased to host internationally acclaimed guitarist Richard Gilewitz.

Richard has had a notable post-Covid comeback. A favorite performer at the Chicago Botanic Garden as a solo artist and in partnership with Tim May, Richard has drawn crowds upwards of 1500 to his performances, setting attendance records for both the Tuesday Morning Music events and the Evenings on the Esplanade series.

This summer found Richard in Michigan as an invited guest instructor at the acclaimed Interlochen Center for the Arts Acoustic Guitar Retreat. Teaching on his widely recognized original composition “Echoing Wilderness,” Richard led master classes of 40+ experienced guitarists in the final portion of the tune, renamed and recorded by Leo Kottke as “Echoing Gilewitz.” Students, family members, and locals came out to hear Richard open the Retreat as only Richard can, with his unique combination of spellbinding fingerstyle mastery and hilarious commentary on life, the universe, and everything in between.

Never one to settle for the boring or mundane, Richard brought a lively and collaborative air to the Acoustic Guitar Retreat, jamming with his fellow instructor and the Retreat leadership. Richard and Acoustic Guitar Retreat Director Matthew Schroeder have now teamed up to revive the acoustic music scene in Milwaukee, playing regular dates together in Milwaukee’s famous 5th Ward and making plans to showcase fingerstyle acoustic guitar around the region.

While these and other new ventures are exciting avenues for bringing his mastery to new audiences, Richard treasures the relationships he has built over the years with repeat performances at favorite venues. He is therefore thrilled to be returning to the Art Center in Lecanto for one solo performance, Friday, December 6, 2024.
